Sunken boat

Greece is a nation 80% of which covers mainland Greece, while its islands constitute the remaining 20%.

It has the longest coastline on the Mediterranean Basin, the 11th longest coastline in the world, and offers a choice of approximately 6000 islands to visitors, 227 of which are inhabited.

Naturally, with so much water to gaze at as well as navigate, Greece was, is and will continue to be a sea-faring nation. Since the Bronze Age, the trade of goods such as pottery, gold or copper artefacts was present in Ancient Greece with the Minoan and Mycenean civilizations at its epicenter. Onassis built his empire around freighters and tanker ships. The figures for 2018 show that 24% of the world's oil tankers are owned by Greek shipping companies and that when looking at global commercial fleet value, Greece is the third largest shipowning country in the world after the US and Japan.

In fact, the tradition of decorating boats at Christmas shows how strong ties to the sea are for Greeks. Though the first Christmas tree to be decorated was first introduced by King Otto in 1833, tradition has it that on December 6 boats are adorned in honor of Saint Nicholas, patron saint of the sea, seafarers, ships and sailing. It is unknown exactly when this tradition began, but to this day it is observed by many.

As for the following shot, it's off the coast of Chalkidiki.
